2011 League Details
Monday night, April 18 will be the first league night of 2011. Once again, this will be a handicap league so that players of all skill levels can competitively compete. The league will begin at the Anderson County Community Park course with sign-up beginning at 6:00 pm and play starting at 6:30 pm. Payouts will always be for CTB, first and second place with additional places paid based on the number of participants each night. We anticipate that we will have 3 six-week sessions this summer. On the first night of each session all participants will be playing to establish their handicap, so this will be the only night of the session that a player can win without an established handicap. For the remainder of that session a player must have an established handicap to be eligible to win a disc (CTB and Ace Pool excluded). It only takes 1 league night play to establish a handicap. Session 1 will be played at the county park and session 2 will be at the city park. The location for session 3 will be announced during session 2. The fees for playing in the league are as follows:
$4.00 - entry fee into league night play
$1.00 - CTB (Closest to the Basket) fee (optional)
$1.00 - ACE Pool (a hole in one) fee (optional)
Remember: All LDGA members receive a $1.00 discount on their entry fee each night.

April 18 (week 1 - session 1)
What a great start to the 2011 league season. 21 disc'ers showed up (13 LDGA members and 8 non-members) under ideal conditions to kick-off the 2011 season. With the ace-pool carrying over from last season, everyone had hopes of capturing the big bucks. Congratulations to Allen Miller for rattling the chains for an ace on hole #1 and going home with the big money. Hole #1 was the CTB hole for the night so Allen also took the CTB prize for the night with his ace. LDGA president Jon Winfrey shot a 3-under score of 55 to take the top place for the night. Ken Woosley finished a close second with a 56. Rodger Hillard and Daniel Masters tied for 3rd place with a very respectible score of 57. Next week the ace-pool starts from scratch (thanks to Allen). Everyone who played tonite now has a handicap heading into week 2. Spread the word about league play so that our league will continue to be one of the top leagues in central Kentucky (and maybe all Kentucky).
April 25 (week 2 - session 1)
Another good turnout as the storms and rain took the day off and allowed 22 disc golfers (13 LDGA members and 9 non-members) to enjoy the 2nd league night of the season under near-perfect conditions. Handicapping went into effect tonight and Andy Austin took advantage of it by shooting an adjusted score of 50 to take first place. Rodger Hillard continued his outstanding play with an adjusted score of 52 to take 2nd place for the night. Kevin Harris and Ben Stratton fired adjusted scores of 53 to tie for 3rd place. Jon Winfrey took the CTB honors for the night on hole #2. No one claimed the $19 in the ace-pool so that will carryover til next week. Apologies go out to Tracy Bottom who was announced as the overall winner for the night only to have that title withdrawn after a scoring correction was made.
May 2
At 6:30 eighteen disc'ers were at their starting hole when the "start" command was given. Unfortunately, the rains that had been holding back all day decided to follow the command as well. Only four holes could completed in the steadily increasing rain before the lightning forced the cancellation of league night #3. Hopefully, next week will be completed in fairer weather conditions.
May 9 (week 3 - session 1)
What a difference a week makes in Kentucky weather. Excellent conditions allowed for 21 players to compete in week #3. Allen Miller captured top honors tonite with an adjusted score of 51. Second place went to Glenn Estes with an adjusted score of 52. Tying for third was Andy Austin and Ricky Spaulding, both with adjusted scores of 54. Kevin "BK" Harris took the CTB honors for the night on hole #3. No aces were thrown so the ace pool will carryover to week #4. At the halfway point of session #1 here are the leaders in aces, birdies and pars: Allen Miller has 1 ace, Kevin Harris and Jon Winfrey have 17 birdies each and Matthew Pinkston has 41 pars. Also, a special welcome to the latest LDGA member Ken Woosley.
May 16 (week 4 - session 1)
Twenty disc'ers (16 LDGA members & 4 non-members) competed and for the first time this season a throw-off was needed to determine the order of finish. With adjusted scores of 56 were Kevin Hall, Adam Hood and Josh Winfrey and after the throw-off 1st place went to Josh, 2nd place to Adam and 3rd place to Kevin. Rob Dillhoff (adjusted score of 57) was the 4th place winner which also required a throw-off. Josh also took the CTB honors for the night on hole #4. No aces for the night so the pool carries over to week 5. Also, a special welcome to the newest LDGA member Lucas Taylor.
May 23
After having perfect weather for the Battle for the Basket on Saturday, a lone but powerful storm front moved in on the park just after 6:30 postponing league activities. All entry fees paid will be carried forward to a future league night. There are still 2 more league nights in session #1.
May 30 (week 5 - session 1)
Summer's here! Week 5 play started tonite with temps in the 90's and a Memorial Day turnout of 17 golfers. Handicapping continues to make scores very competitive. The H's dominated tonite (hot, humid, Harris and Hillard). Cameron Harris took top honors for the night with an adjusted score of 52. Rodger Hillard's adjusted score of 54 just edged out Kevin Harris' score of 55 for second and third respectfully. Rodger also took the CTB title for the night on hole #7. No aces were thrown tonite so the ace pool carries over to week 6. If no aces are thrown next week the ace pool will be carried over to session #2 at the city park and the ace run attempts will be plentiful.
Remember, next week is the final week for session #1. Detailed plans for the transition to session #2 at the city park will be announced at next week's league night and will also be posted here.
June 6 (week 6 - session 1)
The final night of session #1 brought 19 players to the park which saw Kevin Hall take 1st place for the night with an adjusted score of 51. Tracy Bottom and Andy Austin both shot an adjusted score of 52 but a throwoff awarded 2nd place to Tracy. In addition to 3rd place, Andy also took home CTB honors for the night. No aces tonite so when session #2 begins at the city park the ace pool will carry over and will have everyone making ace runs. Next week (June 13) is a transition night between sessions so we will be playing doubles at the county park. Session #2 will begin on June 20 at the city park.
June 13
Doubles night at the county park. A good turnout for a fun night of disc throwing was had under ideal weather conditions. Scoring results were not available. The league moves to the city park next week for the start of session 2. This night will be the first night of the session and will be used to establish new handicaps for session 2. Since this will be the first night of the session, no one will have a handicap and scoring will be the actual score for the round (no adjusting). Please check out the special news segment for the upcoming schedule because we have several events that we are trying to schedule around.
June 20 (week 1 - session 2)
The league moves back to the city park. The first night back combined with a slight breeze kept most scores a bit higher than usual but there were a few who overcame that. Kevin Hall and Tracy Bottom both shot a 10-under 44 with Kevin taking 1st place after a throw-off. 3rd place went to Ricky Spaulding with a score of 46 and Jordan Spaulding got 4th with a 48. Closest to the basket on hole #2 was Ricky Spaulding with a toss just a couple of feet from the pole. Just as in week 1 of session 1 where the ace pool had been carried over from past weeks, Allen Miller broke the bank with an excellent toss on hole #6. The ace pool will start from scratch on the next league night at the city on July 11. Remember, due to the fair, June 27 league activity will be at the county course.
June 27
Not wanting to compete with the fair crowd, league night moved back to the county park for a night of fun competition. Doubles play was on the agenda for the night with the usual LDGA verbal abuse during the competition. Scores didn't seem to matter as fun was the top priority. Next week's holiday (July 4) will push back the next league night at the city to July 11.
July 11 (week 2 - session 2)
Summer has arrived as proven by the 90+ temperatures at the start of league play. Seventeen players (11 LDGA members, 6 non-members) sweated it out as league play resumed following the fair and the Fourth of July. Rex Richardson fired an adjusted score of 47 to take top honors for the night. Ben Stratton took second place with a score of 49. Ricky Spaulding and George Hanks both shot scores of 52 but Ricky was awarded 3rd place after a throw-off. Darryl Rollins got the CTB title for the night on hole #3. Ace pool carries over since no one rattled the chains from the tee.
July 18 (week 3 - session 2)
Another hot night in the city brought out 16 players to compete for the title of league night champion. That honor went to Cameron Harris with an adjusted score of 47. Three players (Jon Winfrey, Ricky Kirkpatrick and Rex Richardson) each shot adjusted scores of 48 and after a throw-off Jon had captured 2nd place and Ricky took 3rd place. Cameron also took CTB honors for the night with a toss on hole #5 just beating out Matthew Pinkston. No aces tonite so the pool carries over to week 4.
July 25 (week 4 - session 2)
A cold front along with a slight breeze brought the temp down into the upper 80's for the 17 league players. The handicapping is doing its job as the scores each week are very close together. Ken Woosley and Matthew Pinkston both had an adjusted score of 48 but Ken took 1st place honors after a sudden-death throw-off. Matthew was awarded 2nd place. Cameron Harris and Rodger Hillard tied with adjusted scores of 50 but Cameron's throw-off shot was just a little better than Rodger's to give him 3rd place. Kevin "BK" Harris was the best on the CTB hole #6. The ace pool was worth $41 but no one took the loot (although Ken's shot on #7 glanced off the basket) so it will carry-over to week 5.
August 1 (week 5 - session 2)
Twenty players showed up to battle the heat and each other on the next-to-last night of session # 2. Allen Miller's adjusted score of 48 was just good enough to capture first place. Kevin Harris, George Hanks and Josh Winfrey each had an adjusted score of 49 so a throw-off determined that 2nd place would be awarded to Josh and 3rd place to George. Rodger Hillard's throws on hole #8 were good enough for the CTB honors for the night. Once again, no aces were thrown so the pot carries over to the final league night at the city course.
August 8 (week 6 - session 2)
Well the final night of session #2 at the city park provided plenty of excitement for the 16 players who came to play. Kevin "BK" Harris saved his best for the last night and shot an adjusted score of 46 and was awarded 1st place for the night. Rodger Hillard just missed claiming the ace pool when his tee shot at #6 skipped and glanced off the top ring of the basket. Rodger did claim 2nd place with an adjusted score of 50. Andy Austin got 3rd place with an adjusted score of 51. Hole #9 was the CTB hole for the night and Kevin Hall edged out Ricky Spaulding for the CTB prize. When league play moves back to the county park next week, the ace pool will start from scratch since Andy also hit an ace on hole #7 with a yellow Wasp. Congratulations, Andy.
August 15 (week 1 - session 3)
The activities moved back to the county park for night 1 of summer session # 3. Since handicaps hadn't been established, scoring was based on raw scores. Kevin "BK" Harris brought his 'A' game and took top honors for the night with a score of 53. Tieing for 2nd place with scores of 54 were Kevin Hall and Marty McMichael. George Hanks nearly aced #1 but did manage to capture the CTB prize for the night when his tee shot ended up almost directly under the basket. The night also saw the return of the 'Island' on hole # 1. The size of the Island will be experimented with this session in preparation for the Autumn Classic. Island size tonite was 70 feet. By the way, no aces were thrown so the prize money carries over to next week.
August 22 (week 2 - session 3)
Another good night of weather with a good turnout to compete for prizes. When all the scores came in there was a tie for first place between Rodger Hillard and Tracy Bottom with scores of 52. A throw-off on hole #1 gave top honors to Rodger. Allen Miller had a 53 to take 3rd place. The CTB battle at hole #2 was just that - a battle that saw Kevin Hall edge out Cameron Harris for the CTB title for the night. No aces were thrown so the loot carries over to week #3 of session 3. The Island on hole #1 was still at 70 feet but rumor has it that it will "shrink" in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
August 29 (week 3 - session 3)
An earlier start time (6:15), great weather and a great turn-out for the 3rd night of the session. Unbeknownst to everyone, Hurricane Irene made a brief appearance over Anderson County. No injuries were reported but part of the shoreline of the hole #1 Island was washed away leaving the Island size at 60 feet. The smaller Island was no problem for Ricky Spaulding or Andy Austin who both shot an adjusted score of 53. After a throw-off, Andy was awarded 1st place and 2nd to Ricky. George Hanks' adjusted score of 54 was good enough for 3rd place. Cameron Harris and Tracy Bottom had scores of 56 so a throw-off to determine 4th place was won by Tracy. Jon Winfrey's first shot of the night was good enough to win the CTB honor at hole #3. The ace pool was worth $47 but no one took it so it will carry over to week 4.
September 5 (week 4 - session 3)
Labor Day brought in cooler weather along with 17 disc'ers ready to battle the breezy conditions. When all was said and done, Tracy Bottom and TJ Tinnell had tied with adjusted low scores of 58. Tracy won the throw-off to capture 1st place and TJ settled for 2nd. Third place went to Bill Gallion with an adjusted score of 59. The CTB honor for the night went to Cameron Harris on hole #7. No aces were recorded tonite so the pool will carry over to next week. The Island remained at 60 feet but with the wind conditions it played much smaller. Only 2 more weeks remain in session #3.
September 12 (week 5 - session 3)
Ideal weather conditions brought out the largest turnout of the summer. Some might even say it was a George-ous night for disc golf as George Hanks shot an adjusted score of 53 to take top honors for the night. Credit part of George's low score to the ace he got on hole #3. That's right, George cleaned out the ace pool fund so next week the ace pool starts from scratch. As for second place, an adjusted score of 55 was held by the following: Bob Huff, Allen Miller, Ricky Spaulding and Jon Winfrey. Darkness prevented a throw-off, so all 4 shared 2nd place honors. The CTB for the night went to Rodger Hillard on hole #4. Next week wraps up session #3 but don't panic about disc golf coming to an end for the year. There's still the Autumn Classic Tournament and there has been some talk of possibly having a session #4 at the City Park during October on Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.
September 19 (week 6 - session 3)
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Move over post office cause the LDGA is in the house. The final league night of session #3 had eleven players show up in rainy conditions to compete and battle into darkness. When all was said and done, Rodger Hillard shot an amazing adjusted score of 50 (raw score 48) to take 1st place honors for the night. Second place went to Jon Winfrey (adjusted score of 56) and third place to Kevin Harris (adjusted score of 57). Jon also captured the CTB flag for the night on hole #1. No aces tonite so the pool carries over to the next league competition which will be determined and announced at a later date.
